The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of CLUJ NAPOCA and the Global Center of Excelence for Advanced Research and Promotion of Silk Production, in collaboration with the International Sericultural Commision

Founded in 1869, The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca is a non-profit public higher-education institution. The goal of the university is to promote excellence in the field of education, research, and innovation by primary academic initial and postgraduate instruction, by lifelong learning and integration within the universal value system according to the requirements of a knowledge-based society.

The educational system has been aligned with the Bologna Standards, and the ETCS credit system was introduced in 1998.The new strategy adopted by the university aims to expand and to strengthen the international relations, the modernization of the entire educational, research and outreach process, thus contributing to the development of the Romanian agriculture, in accordance with the EU standards.

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca is currently one of the most reputed universities in Romania. The UASVM of Cluj-Napoca is member of the Romanian Consortium of the Universities of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and of the Association of the Universities of Cluj-Napoca, as well as of the European University Association by which was assessed in 2003.

The university encourages and supports the cultural life and the practice of sports, providing diverse activities so that the students and the local community manifest their skills and interests in a pleasant and organized way.

The Global Center of Excellence for Advanced Research and Promotion of silk Promotion is a research unit hosted in the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca with the recognition of the International Sericultural Commission. The RCARS – PSP activity is also coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development from Romania and complies with the promoting policies portfolio from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

International Sericultural Commission (http://inserco.org) is the only international organization dealing with sericulture and silk industry.  The Commission organizes various global meetings for the benefit of the stakeholders of the sericulture and the silk industry. The ISC Congress, which is a triennial event, is the only international forum committed exclusively to sericulture and silk an industry that provides access to progress made in sericulture science and technology, current knowledge of the field, and the prevailing global business environment for silk.

It offers an exclusive opportunity for international scientists, universities, faculty & students of Institutions of research in mulberry and non-mulberry silkworms, host plants, post-cocoon technology, biotechnology, sericulture management & economies, post-yarn sectors, the silk trade, processing, promotion, marketing, etc., including those in silk and silk related businesses to interact, share and exchange the most recent advancements in their fields.

International Sericultural Commission (ISC), Bangalore, India

The ISC is a UN registered inter-governmental organization engaged in the development of sericulture and silk industry across the globe. The ISC, which has the rich legacy of initiating its activities by Sir Louis Pasteur, et.al. in 1870s, was headquartered at Lyon, France till 2012 and later shifted to Bangalore, India and started functioning from 1st January 2013. There are 21 Member countries and 35 Associate Members as Members of the ISC. The Member Countries of ISC are; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, DPR Korea, Egypt, France, Ghana, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Madagascar, Nepal, Romania, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
